Off the Grid with GRIDIRON

Digital advertising created by students in Shocker Ad Lab at Wichita State University promoting the Kansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists annual fundraiser, "Gridiron."
After a year of quarantine during the 2020-2021 new coronavirus pandemic, everyone was feeling like they'd been living off the grid — even as our lives continued through Zoom and online platforms. The 2021 Gridiron variety show would be streamed as well as performed in person to a limited-capacity audience following social distancing guidelines. Students brainstormed themes and ultimately chose "Off the Grid with Gridiron."
Finding community partners and developing unique new ways to earn money for journalism scholarships became part of the strategy.
A daily countdown, appearing as the cover photo on the Gridiron Facebook page, built excitement and kept nondigital natives in our target audience logged into social media.
Mailed post cards promoted the first time Gridiron would be available through streaming to anyone, no matter where they lived.
Gridiron is a fundraiser, raising money for the Kansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, which awards journalism scholarships to students at Kansas universities.
